CENTERVILLE, Iowa — While executing a search warrant for stolen property, officers with the Centerville Police Department found more than they bargained for.
An alligator.
According to Centerville Police Chief Tom Demry officers were looking for a television set recently stolen from Wal-Mart.
Demry said no one was home at the time of the search. The animal was taken into custody.
Centerville has an ordinance that prohibits domestic ownership of alligators within the city limits.
It is about two feet long and is estimated to be about one year old.
