SOMERSET, Ky. — A middle-age couple in this southern Kentucky community were declared murder-suicide victims three days after their youngest son died in an automobile accident.
Billy Eugene Baugh, 54, and Shirley Baugh, 53, were found dead in the family home by a another son and a brother of the husband. They had stopped by to accompany the couple to the other son's funeral Wednesday.
Family members told police the Baughs were "terribly distressed" over the son's death and that likely led to their deaths.
Investigators said the husband shot his wife in the head, then shot himself in the head with a handgun.
Clarence Baugh, 27, the couple's youngest son, died Sunday when his car ran off an elevated roadway, overturned and ended up in a creek.
“This is just an absolute tragedy,” said Pulaski County Sheriff Todd Wood. “You see a lot of things in this profession, and this is one of the rare things you see. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone dealing with this.”
