Frightening fire erupts at gas station

DODGE CITY, Ala. —  Sometimes it’s good when the gas tank measures near empty.

A tractor trailer truck caught on fire at a service station Monday along I-65 in central Alabama.  Moments later a fuel tanker parked next to it burst into flames as well, sending billowing clouds of black smoke high into the air.

According to Cullman County Sheriff Mike Rainey the fuel tanker was empty at the time of the fire, possibly preventing a much worse situation.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as scary.

It took about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze, said David Scott of the Cullman County hazardous-materials response team.

No injuries were reported.
