South Georgia couple encounter angry alligatorJames Garvey found an unusual visitor, an alligator, in his backyard Thursday.(Courtesy photo) CNHI News Service VALDOSTA, Ga. — When James Garvey stepped out into his backyard Thursday he got a rude surprise: An angitated alligator was staring back at him. The six-foot long creature was foaming from his eyes and, strangely, its mouth was taped shut. Garvey, whose home is near a river, hustled inside to tell his wife and call for help. Certified alligator handler Billy Craft showed up to take possession of the unwelcomed guest. He said it likely escaped from poachers, and was unusually strong for its size. Authorities said the alligator would be taken to a farm in Oscilla, Fla., where it will be rehabilitated and released into the wild. |
