Below you will find links to open government Web sites for the 23 states where CNHI owns newspapers, Web sites and other publications. Contact CNHI News Service with additional links or if you find broken or outdated links.
National Links
Alabama
- Attorney General -- Links to manual outlining the Open Meetings Law revised in 2005.
- Alabama Press Association -- Outlines Open Records Law in its “Alabama Public Access Laws” manual, posted online. Beware this manual’s reference to the open meetings law is outdated.
- Secretary of State -- Open meetings site allows government entities to post meeting notices and the public to search them.
Florida
- Governor -- Devotes in-depth page to open government. Includes links to state agencies and state Commission on Open Government. Resources page on includes overview of the state’s Sunshine and Open Records laws.
- Brechner Center for Freedom of Information, University of Florida -- Organizes ongoing programs and reports about access in the state. “Government in the Sunshine: A Citizen’s Guide” is posted online.

- Attorney General -- Sections devoted to Freedom of Information and Open Meetings acts. See comprehensive guides to each law, fact sheets and links to the state public access counselor's site which includes an archive of opinions and advisories.
Indiana
- Indiana Public Access Counselor -- “Public Access Handbook” posted online, as well as full text of Open Door Law and Access to Public Records Act. Also available are sample request and appeals forms, public access counselor opinions and fact sheets related to specific kinds of records.
- Indiana Coalition for Open Government -- “Public Access Handbook” posted online, as are and updates about changes to laws.
Iowa
- Attorney General -- Outlines public records and open meetings laws. See public records Q-and-A, as well as a “sunshine advisories” section with interpretations of each law.
- Iowa Freedom of Information Council -- Site is outdated but features online handbook explaining open records and open meetings laws, including rules of thumb and Q-and-A for each.
Kansas
- Attorney General -- Posts FAQs about the state’s open meetings and records laws on his “Open and Honest Government” page. Also posted are links to each law, as well as updated reports of complaints filed against local governments.
- Kansas Sunshine Coalition for Open Government -- Coalition based at Witchita State University posts updates about open government issues in the state.
Kentucky
- Attorney General -- Maintains an Open Records and Open Meetings page with outlines of the laws, as well as "Protecting Your Right to Know" booklet and links to AG decisions and opinions.
- Kentucky Press Association -- Posts text of open meeting and records laws, as well as summary guides to each.

- State Auditor -- Open government unit educates about open meetings and records. Site includes extensive manual.
- Attorney general -- Devotes page to sunshine laws including a state manual (the "Yellow Book.")
