General Stanley McChrystal had to go.

The former top U.S. commander in Afghanistan is an American hero — widely known as a tireless, inspiring leader, a fearless warrior and a military genius. If anybody could lead the U.S. to victory in an increasingly difficult war, it was seen as McChrystal.

Still, President Obama could not keep him on the job.

Forty years ago, on May 4, members of the Ohio National Guard fired more than 60 rounds of live ammunition into a crowd of college students at Kent State University.
Nine students were wounded, one of them paralyzed. Four others –
- Jeffrey Miller, Allison Krause, William Schroeder and Sandra
Scheuer -– were killed.
Krause and Miller had participated in a protest of the Vietnam War’s expansion into Cambodia. About 2,000 others did as well.
