Great white shark sighted at mouth of Merrimack River

CNHI News Service

NEWBURYPORT, Mass. — A great white shark snatched a striped bass from a fisherman's line at the mouth of the Merrimack River Friday, the fisherman and other witnesses said.

It was the third sighting of a great white shark in Massachusetts coastal waters this summer, but the first time in modern memory that a shark has ventured into river waters that flow into the Atlantic Ocean.

The great white shark, popularized in the 1975 movie "Jaws," is one of the ocean's most feared predators. It is seldom seen this far north.

How bad could it be?

That was the question I asked myself when I found out that we would be attending the grand opening of the new Harry Potter theme park at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla.

We didn’t intend to go to the grand opening of the Harry Potter theme park at Universal Studios but, after we blocked out a week for a vacation, we discovered that the Harry Potter theme park didn’t open until the last full day of our vacation.

Since our 12-year-old daughter, Emma, really, really, really, really, really, really wanted to go, we decided we would go on opening day.

“How bad could it be?” I asked.

I don't understand Wall Street.
Not how it works, necessarily -- nobody understands that. I don't understand why it works. Or perhaps, more fittingly, why it doesn't work.
Business news folks tell the rest of us every day how Wall Street is feeling. See, the business news folks can't just tell us what Wall Street is doing, which is really all most of us want to know. They have to tell us how Wall Street is feeling.
