ANDERSON — One person has died following a motorcycle accident Friday night.
Ridge Pershing, 18, of Middletown, died from injuries sustained in a crash involving a 2014 Ford Fusion driven by John Hatzell, 18, of Frankton. The crash took place around 9:48 p.m. at the intersection of East 53rd Street and Applewood Center Way.
Pershing was traveling east on his motorcycle in the 1900 block of East 53rd Street near the Applewood Center Way intersection when Hatzell, who was traveling west, turned south from 53rd Street onto Applewood Center Way and into the path of Pershing, said Maj. Joel Sandefur of the Anderson Police Department.
Hatzell was following a vehicle in front of him through the intersection and did not see Pershing, according to Sandefur.
After the crash, Pershing’s motorcycle caught fire. Witnesses provided aid to Pershing by performing CPR until medical personnel arrived. Hatzell and his passenger were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by a team of crash specialists from the Anderson Police Department, said Sandefur.
It was the second fatal accident involving a motorcycle on Friday that the Anderson Police Department was investigating.
