STATE COLLEGE – Indiana football’s recruiting loss is Penn State’s gain.
Three-star class of 2021 defensive end Rodney McGraw on Sunday afternoon verbally committed to Penn State. McGraw previously committed to in-state program Indiana.
“I want to thank Coach (Tom) Allen and Indiana for the opportunity,” McGraw wrote in his tweet. “Recent events have lead (sic) me to reevaluate my opportunities and take a closer look at some great programs. Thank you to my teammates and coaches for helping me reach this point. The best choice for me is clear! I’m officially committed to Penn State.”
“Thank you to Coach (James) Franklin for the opportunity to play in front of the best fans in college football. Recruitment is officially shut down! Excited to call Happy Valley home.”
At 6-foot-5 and 223 pounds, McGraw possesses a tantalizing build for Penn State defensive line coach John Scott Jr. The Elkhart Central High (Elkhart, Indiana) is ranked No. 26 nationally among weak-side defensive ends and he’s the Hoosier State’s No. 7-ranked recruit. Both rankings are from 247Sports.
McGraw holds 14 scholarship offers from Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa and other programs. During the 2019 season, McGraw tallied 73 total tackles to go with nine sacks, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He recorded tackles in all 12 of Elkhart Central’s games last season.
McGraw’s verbal commitment gives Penn State 11 from the class of 2021. The Nittany Lions now rank No. 13 nationally in 247Sports’ class of 2021 recruiting rankings, and they rank fifth in the Big Ten.
